Directory of the Net
This page is a homage to the early days of the Web, when we would publish our "bookmarks". I've collected and curated these sites over the 27 years I've been on the Internet. My hope is that you can find an interesting resource here!
Friends & Family
- Oddball Tech
- My best friend's oddball tech. My oddball friend's best tech? My tech friend's best oddball?
- Tambra Art
- My mother's art gallery.
- Xe Iaso
- My long-time friend's adventures in being an Archmage of Infrastructure.
Graphics and Design
- Flaticon
- The arctic fox favicon was created by Freepik, and published on Flaticon.
News Sources
- Media Bias / Fact Check
- The single most important link here, not kidding. Check every source you find before reading or trusting it. They are truly doing a public service with their work.
- FOX23
- My primary source for local news. Despite being a Fox affiliate, ironically the furthest left in the Tulsa news media market. Actually covers Tulsa Pride positively. Best weather team in the state, as well.
- Lobste.rs
- My preferred source for news and intriguing thoughtpieces around the tech industry.
- NPR
- My source for national news.
- The Oklahoma Columnist
- My source for state-wide news. Not often updated, and has a partial focus on sports, but the political stories are a deep-dive into places that need more exploration.
- The Oklahoman
- Another great source for state government news, though it is nominally an OKC outlet and therefore has a lot of less-relevant (to me) local stories.
- Others
- I will occasionally peruse BBC, CNN, and Washington Post as well, but you need to know how to read through what is fact and what is opinion, so I'm not explicitly linking them. If you know, by all means, there is great journalism there as well.
Reference Sites
- EveryMac
- Just what it says on the tin: specifications of every Macintosh computer that Apple have ever made. Invaluable when I was cataloguing my collection, and always at hand when I'm figuring out possible upgrades.
- Metacritic
- Reviews of video games, TV shows, films, and such. I consider this my Buyer's Guide for video games. For best results, look up a few that you know, and use that as your guide to see which reviewers match with your tastes.
- PubMed
- Biomedical literature search engine. You need serious scientific chops to truly appreciate the knowledge contained within, but it's a fantastic resource for finding peer-reviewd research and the latest developments.
- Wikipedia
- A great place as long as you remember to check and verify citations. Featured articles here can sometimes surpass textbooks in clarity, depth, and summarisation of various subject matter.
